Has anyone had any success with the latest Windows 10 build in getting the Sound Blaster Z to work. Creative postponed drivers again until August, so Im curious if its possible to use the Windows 8.1 driver for the Sound Blaster Z in Windows 10 and how well does it work. My son’s headset microphone does not work on his Win 7 PC. I have tried everything that I can think of: Tried it plugged in directly into the front audio ports on the case (the motherboard ports). Sound is fine, no mic. Bought and installed a Sound Blaster Audigy card. Plugged the headset into those rear ports. Sound is fine, no mic.

I am usually pretty good at this stuff but this one has me stumped. My son’s headset microphone does not work on his Win 7 PC.I have tried everything that I can think of:. Tried it plugged in directly into the front audio ports on the case (the motherboard ports).

Sound is fine, no mic. Bought and installed a Sound Blaster Audigy card. Plugged the headset into those rear ports. Sound is fine, no mic. Tested his headset on another PC. Sound and mic both work.

Took a known working headset from my PC and plugged it into his. Sound is fine, no mic.I have tried changing the sound volume on the recording devices to no effect. I have switched the default device from microphone to line in (Audigy) to no effect. I switched the default recording device to every other option to no effect. I uninstalled Mumble to no effect. This makes no sense to me. I have switched every available audio component and by installing the Audigy the motherboard should be out of the way. I have looked at every available option in Windows 7 and it makes no difference.

Is this a lost cause at this point? Since you have switched out the hardware, it really sounds like a software problem. I am not sure trying a 3rd microphone would help, but it certainly can’t hurt if you have one around. My first thought was that some software setting had the mic muted, but you’ve already covered that.

At this point, if you are absolutely out of ideas, I would try one or two things depending on how computer savvy you are and how much time you want to spend figuring out the problem. The first option is to boot your son’s computer into a Linux live CD or USB drive and see if it can use the microphone. The second option is backup whatever is necessary and reinstall Windows which is a messy option to say the least. It’s the only thing that makes sense since I have used two different working headsets in two different hardware ports on his computer to no avail.

Hi!Recently got a new computer with a Sound Blaster Z soundcard, and a pair of Sennheiser HD 598 headphones. Trying to get the best sound possible by tweaking the settings a bit in the Sound Blaster Z-Series Control Panel. When I have the settings put to 'Speakers' mode, sound works for my headphones, no problem at all. Everything works perfect. (What you're looking for is in the top middle where it says 'Speakers').But when I switch to 'Headphones' mode, like this, sound stops working. Since I can't hear the sound coming from headphones mode, I can't compare them and wouldn't know if it don't matter. Since I am using headphones, I am just assuming that headphones mode is what I want to use.I appreciate any help I can get, and thanks in advance! Headphone setting is for basic left/right headphones only. Since your headphones have 5.1 Surround, you need to use 5.1 Surround. They likely get the signal for only left/right and just can't do anything with it, because they are not designed to. That button is there so you can have your speakers and headphones plugged in at the same time and switch between them without having to get up. You need to plug in your headphones in the headphone connector (the one with the headphone logo) and your speakers to the one next to it.

This way, when you select headphone mode, you'll hear the sounds through your headphone and when you select the speakers mode, you'll hear them through your speakers. Like this:By the way, even if you don't use speakers, plug your headphones into that connector to get the best performance. It's high powered. Speaker connectors have low power because speakers have a separate power adapter anyways. You have two connectors, one for normal 2.0(2.1) speakers and one for the headphones.

As posted above on the picture. If you connect your headphones to the dedicated headphone port (which you should do, because there is the amp for the headphones), you have to put the it on 'headphone' mode in the control panel. All that switch does is deciding which port will have the sound output.Even with headphones plugged into the headphones port there's no sound coming out when I switch to headphone mode though.
