There used to be a couple of sites where you could download PDF Volkswagen stuff, but ALL of them have been shut down! Undoubtedly, prosecuted by Volkswagen for copyright infringement. The cost is about $65. VW has been very tight on releasing information on their products lately. The days where information and parts were easy to get for a Beetle are over.' Volks Wagen' litterally translates in english to 'Car for the people'. The VW beetle was actually commissioned by Adolph. He wanted a production vehicle that the ordinary citizens could afford to drive and maintain. He wanted it kept simple with lots of parts availability and easy to operate.
VolksWagen is exactly the opposite of that now. They are priced much higher than comparable models. They are priced way too high for the average citizen. They are extremely hard to get technical information on, you have to be a computer scientist to figure out all the bells, whistles, and controlls and the availability of most of the parts is limited to the dealer.
That is why most mechanics will not work on them.I used to own a 1963 Beetle. It was probably the easiest car in the world to work on. You could get parts for them anywhere. They came with a small tool pouch.
The entire car could be disassembled and repaired with the tools that came with the car. Those days are long gone and in my opinion, VW no longer stands for 'Volks Wagen'!
